Interests
My interests are diverse and mostly within the field of artistry. I am an avid theatre-lover with
particular interest in the staging and dramatization of the classical
pieces. Books of the English
literary tradition have always fascinated me and I have specialised in English
Literature as a result of my infatuation.
As a child I could spend hours upon hours reading a good book and still
do. I consider myself very fortunate to have been able to pursue my passion for
reading during my university studies. Through an early exposure to literature,
I developed a keen interest in writing at a very early age, and used it as means
of expression long before turning writing into profession. For my BA-thesis I wrote a short story
and was instructed by Prof. Sarah Moss, a published writer from whom I learned
a great deal.
My intentions as I entered
the MA program in English Literature, Culture and Media was to stay on the
writing path and continue improving my writing; my hope is to achieve
publication of my thesis, a historical novel about the forgotten history of the
Second World War years in Iceland.
I am a passionate traveller
of the world. I love to travel and share my experiences through the written
word, and perhaps even inspire others to travel beyond the measures of my
words. I have done extensive
travelling and cultural excavation in the last decade and hope to continue
doing so for as long as I am physically capable.
In recent years have I been
based in Paris, London and Greece where I held various employment positions to
make a living, while indulging my curious traveller’s heart. As a result of my travel experiences I
have grown independent and self-confident. I believe the acquisition of languages is the key to
understanding the human structure of a nation; how an individual uses language
speaks volumes of not only individual beliefs but also those of the society in
which he or she is raised. I hope
to improve my skills even further in the fields of languages.
Photography is another
important aspect of my being.
During my travels I have taken numerous photos to capture the exquisite
beauty of the world. Landscape is a favourite subject of mine and I sometimes
referred to my pictures as graphic landscape photography.
I married my husband in
February 2007 in his home city Durban in South Africa. We met while both
residing in London. We have lived in Reykjavík since 2007.
